Set amongst mature trees on the edge of the green belt, this net zero carbon housing development provides 143 new affordable and energy efficient homes, including colonies and dedicated wheelchair housing.
Adjacent to the housing, a replacement football pavilion is proposed for Craigroyston Community Youth FC, providing safe, secure and modern changing facilities and a club room adjacent to their existing pitches.
The proposed buildings are situated to retain as many of the mature trees as possible to create an appealing natural setting for the affordable housing development. New native planting has been selected to enhance the existing landscaping. Natural surface water drainage is proposed to further enhance the existing landscape setting. Natural play will be encouraged amongst the trees to create a sense of identity and community for the new residents.
Being a brownfield site, the proposal seeks to enhance biodiversity and to improve access to the adjacent green belt through new and upgraded paths and connections. Surface water drainage is dealt with in a natural way through a combination of open green swales, a storm garden, porous paving and green bio-solar roofs, reducing the impact of drainage infrastructure and significantly contributing to the biodiversity of the site.
Car usage is to be discouraged, with minimal parking and streets designed to provide a high quality environment which prioritises walking, wheeling and cycling.
