Scottish Borders Council Design Award (Commendation), 2007
Our clients for this project wished to create an extension to their 19th Century house which related to the surrounding woodland and provided them with a flexible and inspiring contemporary living space.
The key components of the design concept are the variety of glazed openings which create a progression of light patterns throughout the day, and the west-facing timber deck.
A sense of intrigue is engendered by the contrast between the ordered garden elevation and the less restrained form of the rear elevation, which responds to the surrounding woodland. While clearly contemporary in design, the traditional materials of the extension blend with the existing house, creating a unified composition.
